Senior Account Manager, Supply Partnerships
For this month’s Smaatie Spotlight, we’re featuring a Smaatie from the supply-focused side of our sales department. Taylor Morrison joined Smaato as a Market Quality Associate where she helped us maintain a clean marketplace for the Americas region and drove initiatives to help the global Market Quality team. She then moved into a new role as Account Manager for Supply Partnerships proving that she possesses all the essential qualities of a Smaato Account Manager (and then some!) — including a great rapport with our partners and exceptional analytical skills which have made her the perfect addition to the team. More recently, she was promoted to Senior Account Manager for Supply Partnerships in the Americas.
Taylor, it’s your turn to step into the Smaatie Spotlight!
What does a day in the life of an Account Manager at Smaato look like?
It goes without saying that every day is always different, depending on what projects we currently have on our plate for the week. When I get into the office, I go through my emails and complete a quick review of all of my accounts before heading to the kitchen to fuel up for the day. As the day progresses, my main objective is to carry out an analytical deep-dive for each of my publishers’ accounts to figure out new ways to optimize the monetization of their inventory. On a regular day, I usually have at least one call with a partner where we discuss changes that they are in the process of implementing to optimize their ad operations and the adjustments we have to make to accommodate those changes.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Since I started out in a market quality role, I was able to work with many departments within Smaato and get exposure working with partners both on the supply and the demand side. In my new role, I enjoy being able to use the technical skills I gained to utilize the products that Smaato has to help my publishers increase revenue.
What three skills do you think are essential to be a successful Account Manager at Smaato?
You have to be: communicative, proactive, and detail-oriented.
- Communicative: Ensuring partners are aware of their performance, our new products, industry trends, changes or updates in tech, etc.
- Proactive: Keeping an eye on fluctuations in demand and traffic, and then working to find a solution to manage the shift.
- Detail-oriented: Making sure that all the parameters are correct on the platform.
What are some of the challenges you face in your day-to-day role?
This is the first time that I have to directly deal with complex legal contracts. With legal affairs, we have to loop in different teams and a number of stakeholders to look at the legal documents and examine the various tech restrictions to implement them on each platform. It’s a challenge but also fun to understand how we implement changes to comply with the latest laws.
What makes Smaato the right fit for you?
I get to work with an amazing team — and that includes my colleagues in Hamburg and Singapore! We work so closely as a global team on our day-to-day tasks that we’ve gotten to know each other pretty well. It’s rare to find a company where the global teams are as connected as they are here at Smaato.
What is your favorite work perk?
My Clipper Card! It’s great that I don’t have to worry about the extra cost of commuting to work in San Francisco, because Smaato takes care of public transportation costs.
What motivates you?
Being in an industry that is rapidly growing, I enjoy keeping up with changes in technology. Also, learning new and creative ways to grow revenue for my clients. Each publisher is different in their needs, and I enjoy the challenge of finding a solution to fit their individual goals.
How do you keep learning and developing in what you do?
I’m fortunate to be able to work in a team of skilled individuals, and each member of the team brings a different quality to the table. We make the effort to coordinate bi-weekly meetings to have time to learn from each other.
What is your favorite ad tech resource for keeping up with this fast-moving industry?
I typically keep up to date with AdExchanger. We also have a company slack group where we’re always sharing the latest industry news.
What is your favorite app right now?
MobilityWare’s Freecell Solitaire — I love playing on the train on my way to work to pass the time during my commute.
Where are you going on your next vacation?
I’ll be kitesurfing in the Dominican Republic in the spring!
